The Portuguese Appeal seeks to raise funds to erect a life size statue of King Manuel II, as well as renovate the Church of St James’s in Twickenham as a new spiritual centre for the Portuguese in London

Francisco de Mendia, Vice-Chairman of the Portuguese Centenary Appeal,

Francisco de Mendia was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Portuguese Centenary Appeal in 2017. Together with the Chairman he runs the daily activities of the Centenary Appeal in Portugal and United Kingdom. Its main activity is the launch of the Centenary Appeal in Portugal. In addition to the liaising with the UK, he will support the fundraising programme as well as the coordination of the promotion programme for the Appeal.

With a degree in Economics from the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Francisco de Mendia is a consultant and has accumulated a large experience in communication and financial management over the last years. He is a member of the board of CV&A Consultancy and also a member from the advisory board of Associação Lisbonense de Proprietários. He was adviser to the Minister of Education of the XVI Constitutional Government, shareholder-founder and director of Agência Financeira (currently owned by the Media Capital group), and also worked at Banco Finantia. He began his career as a journalist, where he worked for the newspapers Semanário and Diário Económico.

He is also a consultant and member of the Private Council of HRH The Duke of Braganza and Provedor of the Royal Brotherhood of Santa Cruz e Passos da Graça.
